Sunday 7th Feb was our outing to RaceWorld Indoor Karting just outside of Exeter. We had a small group, consisting of Jennifer, David, Baylee, Dominic and I (Jake) and all met up together at RaceWorld around 1pm.
We needed to re-fuel ourselves with a bit of food before we went racing and luckily enough there was an awesome little American diner attached to the centre.
After food, we went to Reception and signed ourselves up to RaceWorld which meant that our lap times would be recorded and if we wanted to come back again then we could see if we could beat our old times! We then had to hang around until we were taken into a meeting room and were briefed on the rules and regulations of the track. After this, we were suited up in a kind of overall/boiler suit type thing, and then waited to be called for our time on the track.
Our time had come… we found out we were racing other people which was fine, we grabbed our helmets and sat in our respective Go-Karts and waited for the green light to set off. We set off on or 10 minute session, the first lap being a slow crawl around to get used to the track, and the people we were racing with decided to go full power around on the first lap which was a bit silly of them!
The track involved lots of tight corners and even a bridge which you had to go up, over and down with a sharp hairpin left turn at the bottom…this proved a bit of a task for Jennifer, as she had come to a stop at the bottom of the bridge and then left suddenly at speed into one of the barriers! Jennifer was absolutely fine, if not a bit shaken and wedged under a barrier, and the RaceWorld staff were absolutely brilliant and came to her rescue and quickly released her; she sat out for the rest of the race.
The race then continued and we all got very competitive, drifting around the corners and occasionally bumping into each other (accidentally!). After our 10 minutes were up we arrived in the pits and then left the Karts. Our times were printed out in reception, and when we all got our results we found that Jennifer had come 1st as she had just about done one lap which was the fastest, and then Dominic, Jake, David and Baylee. Despite Jennifers ‘bump’ we had such a good day, definitely something we will try and do again soon.
