Our first Newsletter has gone out!! 99 problems and technical glitches were 1 but we got there in the end! Fancy receiving our next newsletter? You can subscribe on our homepage: http://www.theturningtidesproject.org.uk/

Didn't get it but still want to know what it said? Take a look below!

Hello!

At The Turning Tides we get to work with great people and great organisations – over the past 12 months we have delivered 23 training sessions on the social model, had our website visted nearly 50000 times, worked with hundreds of different people and started a number of new projects. Not bad for a company that has just celebrated its second birthday!

After months of discussing, designing and planning we are officially ready to launch some new strands of our organization. We want you to be the first to hear about it!

#Inclusive
Our #Inclusive endorsement is our way of giving a high five to organisations and people that take an inclusive and accessible approach. Are you #Inclusive? Contact us and let us know!
http://www.theturningtidesproject.org.uk/inclusive.html

Small Talk
Our brand of accessible communication. Small Talk uses a multi-sensory approach and aims to cater for everyone. Small Talk is a service that we can provide other organisations working with our inhouse experts to create a format that works.
http://www.theturningtidesproject.org.uk/small-talk-accessible-communication.html

Evaluation Service
To help you work out the effectiveness of a service or project you are running. This is not just aimed at services for people with ‘Learning Disability’ and ‘Autism’ labels but any service at all – the aim is to create an entirely #Inclusive community.
http://www.theturningtidesproject.org.uk/evaluation-services.html

Online Shop!
This is so that we can function as a sustainable company; not relying on grants. We are creating products that we believe are of value and will be worn/used with pride! As we create new things and learn new skills our shop will become bigger and more varied – watch this space.

Ideas and Reads
We are in the middle of creating a brand new page on our website for your ideas and suggested reads! After all, we get to meet great people all the time – it is only right that you get to have a section to share your life hacks and discoveries. Would you like to contribute to the page? Contact us and let us know.

Newsletters
As this email may suggest, we have also decided it’s time we sent out newsletters! If at any point, you no longer want to have updates from us please just send us a quick email and you will be removed from our newsletter list. We will never bombard you with emails and we will never pass your details onto any third parties, we just want to keep in touch and keep you up-to-date.

What is already going on
With so many new strands of The Turning Tides, it is important to remember what we already do! Don’t forget about all our existing sessions, EPIC, projects and training days. We have some spaces on our June and July training courses but these spaces are disappearing fast! If you would like to attend one of our training days, please reply to this email or call us.

Morpheus – An accessible journey through dreams
Finally, the tickets for our much anticipated performance at Arnos Vale in Bristol are now on sale on Event Brite! This project is entitled ‘Morpheus’, and is set to be an amazing journey through a beautiful landscape full of music and art. For more information and to buy tickets, please head to Event Brite or take a look at our website.

Yours Inclusively,
Dominic

Swimathon Results - "Smashed it"

With nearly all donations in, we can now give you a running total for our Swimathon! We will update this total as the remaining donations come in - A bit like when you watch Sport Relief or something like that...

The current totals:

Total Lengths Swam: 536.5

Total Distance: 8.38miles

Total amount fund-raised: £454.28

Amazing totals and a great achievement I am sure you'll agree, but these numbers do not do it justice at all! The number of people that turned up and swam, that supported and donated. The number of people that swam even triple their target amounts was astounding! What an #InclusiveSwim!

Super proud of all of us, especially those that braved their swimming costumes and smashed out some amazing lengths - it was great to see everyone working towards the common goal of #5milesin2hours. As you can see we more than managed that... in fact... we hit that target in an hour! Incredible. Bigger targets next time? Maybe a Triathlon?

Before we even started swimming Stuart said to Jane "We're going to smash this", it is exactly this confidence that made us do so well!

In the words of Troy, who swam 12 lengths, "I thought it was quite amazing. It was great fun!"
I think that sums up the day rather well!

Thank you everyone, including Lords Meadow who helped make the event possible.

If 3 is a crowd what is 12?!

So, yesterday was the day we hoped we would each gain our City and Guilds qualification from our Train the Trainer course - by passing the test and our presentations.

We had written and prepared slide-shows, quizzes, film clips and audio clips, cut paper and ensured we had enough pens. Personally, it felt like being back in school... but this time with all the cool kids.

After a practice run of the quiz, we took to it like a duck to water... or a person to paper. The wording from City and Guilds was not always easy to understand, which will form part of our feedback for them, but we got through it. We then sped straight in to the presentation, which covered a variety of topics from football to a Marvel films, and even how to set up a humane animal trap.

All the presentations were very informative and extremely interesting, and for some of them were very humorous.

At the end of the day we received our feedback from our lovely trainer, Mary, who gave us the good news....we all passed! That's right, 12 of us passed a level 2 course!

A brilliant day, a massive well done to everyone and a moment of reflection that shows how amazing people are.

In response to the title question, 'If 3 is a crowd then what is 12', the answer is: a qualified training team! Now just to take our new skills and use them when delivering the Turning Tides Training.

The Turning Tides Radio Vibe is now a podcast on MixCloud!

Unfortunately as many of you will know, last month our radio show took a bit of a knock. Our hub, MoorFM, having had endless technical issues had to close down.

The radio show had such a big impact on our audience and the people that create it - it just didn't make any sense to completely stop it. After some weeks of deliberating and working out a new platform, we have finally found it!

We will still be using our Soundcloud page to upload our original music pieces, so please keep checking that page for our next hit single! Our podcast will be separate, both old shows and new, will now be uploaded to our own dedicated page on MixCloud.com.

As we are no longer reliant on a Radio station, this means we can now create some new features. For example, the news, sport, film reviews and weather!

Due to the all of the changes, we are running a little behind on this month's broadcast... fortunately, we are only a week behind! The podcast will be available to listen to from the 11th May. From June, new shows will go back to normal and be brought out on the first Wednesday of the month and will be uploaded straight onto our MixCloud page.

As always don’t forget to check us out on our Mixcloud and Soundcloud pages, maybe you could listen to our previous months radio shows/podcasts and give us a follow if you like what you hear!
