It rained, it poured, the Old Man snored and we all ate cream teas. Saturday 20th August was our Summer Rhapsody Garden Party. We cosmic ordered a sunny day, but instead got a day of torrential rain... This did not stop the party though!
We enjoyed a beautiful recital by Jane Williams (our very own Director!) and Peter Adcock. They performed pieces by Gershwin, Debussy and Heath on the saxophone and piano. The music was awesome, and even a change in playing position didn’t put them off being the ultimate professionals. People enjoyed Prosecco and Pimms, cream teas were eaten, tea was drunk, and everyone just about managed to keep dry! The hat competition was won by me, Gavin Rough, with a huge thank you to Rivka Jacobs who came to judge. The auction was supposed to be a silent one, but that idea was rained on. We took it inside, and once everyone warmed up the bids started to come in, with some of the artwork being very popular. We must say a big thank you to Joy Quickenden and David Bragg for kindly letting us use their beautiful house as a venue. Also for their help in setting up and Joy for making and serving the cream teas. We also must thank all the people and companies that donated prizes for the auction, and those that all took the time to read and respond to our requests. We are very grateful for all the help. We raised a grand total of £961.50 from the day, and without everyone’s support this would not have been possible. Once again a massive thank you to all who came and supported the day. We have been incredibly busy over the last few weeks with other projects but now we have come up with a quality show for you, and our team have spent a lot of time thinking of new features which we will start rolling out in the next few months, which includes a section where we showcase some songs from around the world. This month’s show includes all the usual features you know and love like the Official Turning Tides Top 5 Countdown and our song request section where we invite our audience to request their favourite songs; this month it includes songs from Metallica to Rod Stewart. Also, this month’s Live and Loud section includes a couple of songs which we had created and performed live for our performance of ‘Morpheus’ at Arnos Vale. The first song is Forgotten Dreams which is a saxophone, cello and glockenspiel piece Jane Williams wrote for her Father. The second is 3:18 which is a song inspired by John Cage’s 4:33 and includes a blend of vocals, harmonica duets, birdsong, saxophone and percussion sound-scape that was partly improvised, partly spontaneous, partly rehearsed and digitally constructed that is accessible on many levels. This month’s show features:

On the 6th of August The Turning Tides Project have been invited to the Battle of the Bands in Okehampton Park. We will be performing our own original songs to the crowd as one of the many performances that are on during the day.
The Turning Tides stage crew will include Ross and Tom and will involve checking instruments, setting up microphones, checking the wires and amps are correctly set up and plugged in. This will mean checking the volume of the amps (and turning them up to 11!). During the performance, we will stand at the side as support, and monitor the equipment - come and say hi and rock out! Written by Ross Baines and Tom Stewart, Published by Dom Palfreman I left home at 8:30 am to travel to Bristol, arriving at 10:30 am where I had coffee and a health bar.
I played on an oil drum walking up the carriage way during the Morpheus performance, I also played on a violin live in the Chapel at Arnos Vale. The title of the whole performance was called MORPHEOUS. I was very proud of myself and what I achieved! All of the pre-recorded versions of our tracks for Morpheus can be found on The Turning Tides SoundCloud page. Written by Martin Turner, Published by Dom Palfreman Hi,
