On Saturday we took part in the Okehampton Carnival and won second prize in class 10 - costumed collectors (non motorised vehicles). Thanks for the £15 prize money: we went back to the King's Arms afterwards and had a well deserved drink!
The day started at the King's where we did a bit of last minute finishing off to costumes. We had Turning Tides sea monsters which had lights in the heads. We had sea themed glowing lanterns and a cool band made up of drummers, Kath with shakers and the very awesome Stu on the glockenspiel. Then it was off to the conservative club for judging. The streetsof Okehampton were lined with hundreds of people, the weather was perfect and (despite it being a long walk) we all enjoyed the procession. "Okehampton carnival was brilliant!" - said Gavin "It was cold but fun" - said Meg "I really liked the costume I wore, it's the most colourful I'll be all year!" said Tom "It was a long way and my feet are hurting. Tomorrow I'm staying in bed!!" - said Stuart Written by Stuart Raymont, Tom Stewart and Gavin Rough. Published by Dominic Palfreman. In May of this year we were lucky enough to be able to have a workshop session on the ins and outs of a radio show. We had the idea of creating our own and with help from Dan Rose from MoorFM.
We then took control and come up with ideas for what would be in the show we decided that we should put requests for songs, interviews, chat shows, sing-alongs and live performances by our own members. Everybody is involved in all the processes, from recording to editing to choosing what songs will be aired. The radio show is really enjoyable, we have a laugh and get to mess around with friends old and new, and talk about important topics. We are always looking to help record, edit, make radio jingles and choose songs, if you would like to get involved please contact Jake on 07772803673 or feel free to request songs in the comment section below. And don’t forget to listen to the Turning Tides Radio Vibe Show every last Wednesday of the month, 6-7pm on MoorFM.co.uk. We will soon be introducing a catch up player for past shows too so stay tuned. Written by Ross Baines and Tom Stewart, Published by Dom Palfreman On Tuesday the 29th September, we had our monthly pub jam at The Kings Arms in Okehampton. It was a fun night and there was a bigger turnout than last month which was brilliant to see.
We enjoyed playing music, doing sing-alongs together, making songs and being noisy! We also played odd instruments like the spoons which we thought were great fun. It was really nice to see people working together and we look forward to the next one!
