On the 21st January we were given the amazing opportunity to go to the FabLab at the Exeter library.
We met at the bus stop and made our way to Exeter. When we got into Exeter we made our way to the library where we were met by the FabLab volunteers. We also met Stuart Q’s sister, Charlott, in the FabLab (who is the FabLab manager) and she gave us a talk about the machines. We were shown the 3D Printer and a Vinyl Cutter as well as being shown some of the things you can make on the Laser Cutter and the 3D Machine. We then took it in turns to design butterflies on the tablets which then sent them to the laser machine in a format that the machine could understand they were then cut out in a type of corrugated plastic material, after a few attempts they came out looking really good! It was really clever, we had a really good time and have made some lovely butterflies which will be displayed at our Arnos Vale project this year. Many thanks to the FabLab for having us and we will see you again this Friday for a full 'makey makey' session!
