I’m sure I’m not alone in finding ‘the season of goodwill’ a bit of a struggle...
I don’t understand why ‘goodwill’ isn’t year round, I don’t understand the consumerism, papers reporting increased personal debt like it’s a national victory or Christmas shoppers loaded with bags oblivious to the those sitting in shop door ways with nowhere to sleep. The first release of the Band Aid’s ‘Do they know its Christmas?’ is always a powerful reminder to me of how far we have still to travel. I think the season is a call to arms, a time to reflect – not a time to rush, spend and over indulge but a time to step back, look at what’s going on around you and make sure that what you do and what you say is a positive contribution to that. A time to reaffirm your principles and get ready to apply them again next year. On behalf of The Turning Tides Project, I’d like to reaffirm our principles: for ‘good will’ and ‘Mutual Respect’. I, and the people that are part of the Turning Tides Project believe, and seek to demonstrate, that time, generosity, respect, integrity, opportunity and honesty are all ours to give: if we all gave equally, then we’d all receive some too. If you’d like to be a part of it or would like to find out more about how we do what we do, we’d love to hear from you. We’d like to wish you all a peaceful Christmas and we look forward to meeting you in an environment of Mutual Respect in 2018 . Written by Jane Williams, Published by Dom Palfreman |
